How to clean painted walls
Painted walls are lovely and give a fresh, clean feel to a home but after a while, all sorts of marks will start to appear. The areas that are particularly prone to marks will be the stairs and hallways as people tend to touch the walls as they walk past. Don’t worry these are easy to remove with a few simple products.
Recipe
- Soap and water: 20% soap to 80% water
- Bicarb soda: Used if you need a little gentle scouring power
- Decorators varnish: interior and exteriror
Cover the affected area with a light spray of the soap and water mix, then gently wipe the mark away. If this does not work, make a thick paste with bicarb soda and water. Smear a little of this mixture over the marked area and wipe gently off with a damp cloth.
It is always advisable to do this first on a small area normally out of sight. If you have a high traffic area like a hallway, I have used decoration varnish on the walls. The varnish gives a durable finish over the wall, which will help reduce finger marks, stains and general scuffing.
