Ants are welcome to be in the garden as this is where they belong, however, when they invite themselves in it can be rather annoying. If you would like a harsh chemical way to avoid them nibbling in your sugar jar, then try this method.

  • Eucalyptus oil or tee tree oil
  • Cotton ball

Ants invade for 2 things, water and food so try not to leave these about as an open invitation. Once these have been cleaned up then soak a cotton ball in eucalyptus oil and run it across the door or window where the ants are entering.

Ants use chemical trails to find their way about. If you remove their need to come in and remove their chemical road, you will be a long way to solving your uninvited guest problem.

If your garden seems a little overgrown and all you want to do is get rid of the weeds with as little effort as possible: you can, but don’t reach for the normal weedkiller. All you need is neat distilled white vinegar, a spray bottle and a good sunny day.

Spray the weeds until soaked with the vinegar in the morning and then just leave them for the day. They should shrivel up in the sunshine. While you are waiting for the vinegar to work its magic you can plonk yourself in a deck chair with a good book and a glass of something cool and delicious.

This is a great method to clear driveways and paths of winter weeds and moss.

The bees will thank you for not using harsh chemicals.
